Kimberly Phillips has been an educator for over twenty years. Kimberly has taught in private, public, parochial, and private school settings in Michigan, Georgia, and Texas. In her long career as an educator, she created safe classrooms focused on equity, diversity, STEAM, gifted education, and high academic achievement. She founded two charter elementary schools and one private elementary school.
Ms. Phillips served as the Senior Director of Gifted and Talented Programs with Detroit Public Schools Community District. In this role, Ms. Phillips created a gifted student identification process and worked to implement support for all DPSCD students. She supported administrators, counselors, teachers, and parents in understanding the unique needs of gifted children. She collaborated and presented with William and Mary’s Center for Gifted Education and the Roeper Institute in A Matter of Equity, a collaborative project with The Roeper School, & DPSCD teachers, to create a cohort focused on equity in gifted education. Kimberly continues to consult independently with the district as a Javits Grant Team member.
Kimberly is the founder and CEO of The Orchid Life, a consulting organization that focuses on the social, emotional, and educational needs of children, including exceptionalities. In this capacity, she works with schools and districts across the country to promote equitable academic success for all students and increase student academic achievement. She uses a blog platform to create informative educational content for parents, educators, and school administrators.
Kimberly is an Executive Board Member of the Michigan Association of Gifted Children and currently serves as the President. She is an avid reader and researcher. Kimberly is passionate about meeting the social, emotional, and academic needs of all children. She enjoys traveling internationally, cooking exotic dishes, & spending time with her family. Kimberly is the proud mother of two gifted daughters.
